Mysore Dasara - Women's Dasara

Women’s Dasara was a medley of colors and exuberance of energy and vitality. The stand-up comedian had the entire audience in splits with her well-timed jokes and pertinent hilarious jibes at the modern times mannerisms and customs. 

The perfect combination of her body language,  spoken language and expressions were so lively and witty that the packed event tent was filled with perpetual  laughter and loud applause. When narrating any modern-day habits which are quite common and matter-of-fact these days - like selfies, pouts, Facebook photos and many such similar modern-day ‘practices’ - she kept a straight face - one of utter awe and  disbelief and bewilderment – while her narration and expression made the audience crack-up with loud laughter.

Following her, were dance programs, classical as well as folk dance. Bharatanatyam dancers in their exquisite costumes and make-up performed dance depicted the story of Goddess Chamundeswari or Goddess Durga who fought against the evil and emerged as the victorious symbol of good over the evil.

There was also folk dance competition where folk dancers from across Karnataka took part. Vibrant colors, energetic performance,  beautiful costumes, peppy folk tunes, and dance steps enthralled the audience. 

Each troupe had their characteristic costume, accessories, depending on the dance form and village they represented and such an eclectic medley was a sight to behold. During the break, dancers and even audiences broke into an ad hoc flash mob on the stage at a peppy film number. 

The highlight was not only the impromptu flash mob but the number of ladies – otherwise looking traditional, quiet and elderly – who jumped on to the podium and danced, shedding all inhibitions and letting their inner vigour and energy soar high, revelling in the merriment.
